2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix in the applesauce until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
