Ingredients
1 pound ziti pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and brown the ground beef. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer 15-20 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the cooked pasta with ricotta and half the mozzarella.
- Layer sauce and pasta mixture in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10-15 minutes until bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.
