Ingredients
4 tablespoons butter (or pan drippings)
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 beef bouillon cube (or 1 teaspoon powder)
1 chicken bouillon cube (or 1 teaspoon powder)
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon ground black pepper (to taste)
2 cups water
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
3. Stir in the beef and chicken bouillon powders until well blended.
4. Add onion powder and garlic powder.
5. Slowly pour in the water while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
6. Simmer while stirring until thickened to your desired consistency.
7. Add black pepper to taste and remove from heat.
8. Serve warm over mashed potatoes, fried chicken, or biscuits.
Notes
You can substitute bouillon with stock, but the flavor may be less intense.
Store in the fridge up to 4 days or freeze for a month.
For a vegetarian version, use plant-based bouillon and butter.
