Description

This Best Layered Black Forest Trifle is an easy, no-bake dessert layered with moist chocolate cake, cherry pie filling, and fluffy whipped cream. A perfect holiday showstopper or party favorite, this trifle combines rich chocolate, tart cherries, and creamy textures for a visually stunning and flavor-packed treat. Ideal for make-ahead and customizable with Kirsch or fresh cherries.

Ingredients

1 chocolate cake or 1 batch brownies (baked and cooled)

2 cups cherry pie filling

2 cups heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chocolate shavings or curls

10 maraschino cherries or fresh cherries for garnish

2 tablespoons Kirsch (optional)

Instructions

1. Bake and cool the chocolate cake or brownies. Once cooled, cut into small cubes or crumble for layering.

2. In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

3. Prepare your trifle station with cherry pie filling, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and optional Kirsch.

4. In a clear trifle bowl, start layering: first a layer of cake cubes, then a layer of cherry pie filling, followed by a layer of whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

5. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the bowl.

6. Finish with a decorative layer of whipped cream, topped with chocolate curls and cherries.

7. Chill the trifle for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

8. Scoop into bowls ensuring each portion has a bit of every layer. Enjoy!

Notes

Chill your mixing bowl before whipping cream to get better volume and stability.

Use a piping bag with a star tip for a professional finish on the top layer.

For the best flavor, make the trifle a day ahead so the layers can meld together.
