Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

Description

Rich, cheesy, and layered with golden-baked potatoes, this classic comfort food side dish is perfect for any dinner table. With a creamy cheese sauce and a crisp, bubbly top, it’s ideal for holidays or a cozy family meal.


Ingredients

2.5 lbs Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

3 tbsp butter

3 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk and cream until smooth and thickened.
  4. Stir in garlic, salt, pepper, and cheese. Mix until cheese is melted.
  5. Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over.
  6. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and sauce.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake for another 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest 10-15 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
