Chicken Sausage Broccoli and Orzo Skillet

Description

This one-pan meal combines flavorful chicken sausage, tender broccoli, and creamy orzo in a skillet that’s both satisfying and easy to make. It’s perfect for busy nights when you need something wholesome and delicious without spending hours in the kitchen.


Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

4 chicken sausages, sliced

1 small onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

3 cups broccoli florets

1 cup orzo pasta

2 1/2 cups chicken broth

Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion for about 3 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add broccoli and a splash of water. Cover and steam for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp. Remove lid and cook off any excess liquid.
  4. Stir in the orzo and toast for 1-2 minutes. Add chicken broth and bring to a gentle boil.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender and most of the broth is absorbed.
  6. Return the sausage to the skillet and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  7. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in Parmesan if using. Serve warm.
