Description

Classic Shakshuka is a hearty and flavorful breakfast dish featuring poached eggs in a spiced tomato and pepper sauce. It’s easy to make, nutritious, and perfect for sharing.


Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

1 red bell pepper, chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon sweet paprika

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

Salt and pepper to taste

6 large eggs

Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Crusty bread or pita (for serving)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté onion and bell pepper until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Stir in cumin, paprika, and cayenne. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Pour in crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper.
  6. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until sauce thickens.
  7. Create wells in sauce and crack eggs into each.
  8. Cover and cook until eggs are set, 5-8 minutes.
  9. Garnish with herbs and serve with bread.
