Description

A delicate and visually stunning dessert, Easy Napoleon Cake layers crispy puff pastry with luscious vanilla custard. It’s perfect for special occasions, yet simple enough for home bakers looking to impress. Serve it chilled for the ultimate creamy, crunchy bite.

Ingredients

3 sheets puff pastry, thawed

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup granulated sugar

4 large egg yolks

3 tablespoons cornstarch

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Powdered sugar for dusting

Fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out puff pastry sheets slightly and cut into equal-sized rectangles.
  2. Place sheets on parchment-lined baking trays. Prick with a fork and cover with another tray to prevent puffing. Bake 15-20 minutes until golden and crisp. Cool completely.
  3. In a saucepan, warm the milk. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
  4. Gradually whisk warm milk into the egg mixture. Return to saucepan and cook until thick, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Let custard cool.
  6. Layer puff pastry and custard on a serving plate, ending with a pastry layer.
  7. Chill in fridge for 4 hours or overnight.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with berries before serving.
