Ingredients
3 sheets puff pastry, thawed
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 large egg yolks
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Powdered sugar for dusting
Fresh berries for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out puff pastry sheets slightly and cut into equal-sized rectangles.
- Place sheets on parchment-lined baking trays. Prick with a fork and cover with another tray to prevent puffing. Bake 15-20 minutes until golden and crisp. Cool completely.
- In a saucepan, warm the milk. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
- Gradually whisk warm milk into the egg mixture. Return to saucepan and cook until thick, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Let custard cool.
- Layer puff pastry and custard on a serving plate, ending with a pastry layer.
- Chill in fridge for 4 hours or overnight.
- Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with berries before serving.
