A cozy and comforting casserole that layers juicy ground beef, fluffy white rice, and creamy cheese all brought together with the rich flavor of French onion soup. Topped with golden caramelized onions, this dish is perfect for a family dinner or weeknight meal.


Ingredients

Ground Beef

Cooked Long-Grain White Rice

French Onion Soup (canned or homemade)

Sour Cream

Shredded Cheese (cheddar and mozzarella mix)

Caramelized Onions

Butter

Olive Oil

Salt

Pepper

Garlic Powder

Dried Thyme


Instructions

  1. Cook rice according to package directions (you’ll need 3 cups cooked).

  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease.

  3. In a large bowl, combine cooked beef, cooked rice, French onion soup, sour cream, half the cheese, and seasonings. Mix thoroughly.

  4. Spread mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  5. Sprinkle remaining cheese over top.

  6. Caramelize onions in butter and olive oil until golden, then spoon them over the casserole.

  7. Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until bubbly.

  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
