Garlic Mushroom Grilled Cheese

  • Author: Kate Walton
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2 sandwiches

Description

A rich, toasty sandwich that combines sautéed garlic mushrooms with gooey melted cheese between golden buttered bread slices. Perfectly crisp outside and savory inside, this grilled cheese makes a cozy lunch or an indulgent snack.

Ingredients

Mushrooms (cremini or baby bella)

Garlic, minced

Butter

Cheese (mozzarella, provolone, or gouda)

Thick-sliced sourdough or rustic white bread

Salt and black pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt 1 tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and sauté until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic to the mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1-2 more minutes.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, layer cheese, garlic mushrooms, and another layer of cheese.
  4. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
  5. Grill the sandwich in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden and the cheese has melted.
  6. Let rest for 1 minute before slicing and serving.
