Description

Make dinner exciting with these flavorful Ground Beef Tacos—an easy weeknight meal loaded with juicy beef, fresh toppings, and crispy shells. This taco recipe uses simple ingredients and bold spices for a homemade version that’s better than takeout. Perfect for family dinners or Taco Tuesday gatherings!

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 tbsp tomato paste or 1/4 cup tomato sauce

1/4 cup water

8 taco shells (hard or soft)

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 medium tomato, diced

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese

Optional: sour cream, sliced avocado, hot sauce, lime wedges

Instructions

1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef while breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.

2. Once the beef is mostly cooked, drain excess fat if needed, then stir in the chopped onion and garlic. Cook for 2–3 minutes until soft and fragrant.

3. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and coat the meat evenly.

4. Stir in tomato paste or tomato sauce and water. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

5. Meanwhile, warm taco shells in the oven or a dry skillet until just crisp.

6. Fill each shell with the beef mixture, then top with lettuce, diced tomatoes, onion, and shredded cheese. Add optional toppings as desired.

7. Serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Notes

For a leaner option, ground turkey works just as well as beef.

Prep your toppings while the beef simmers to save time.

Freshly shredded cheese melts better and tastes more flavorful than packaged pre-shredded.
