Ingredients
1 ½ pounds ground beef or lamb
1 medium yellow onion, diced

2 medium carrots, diced
1 cup frozen peas
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
4 cups mashed potatoes
4 tablespoons butter
½ cup cream
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
1. Peel, chop, and boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender. Drain and mash with butter and cream until smooth. Set aside.
2. In a large skillet, sauté onion and carrots until softened. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
3. Add ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
4. Stir in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
5. Pour in beef broth and simmer until the mixture thickens.
6. Stir in frozen peas and thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
7. Spread meat mixture into an oven-safe baking dish.
8. Layer mashed potatoes on top, smoothing or creating rustic peaks.
9. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden.
10. Broil for 2–3 minutes for extra crisp. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For ultra-smooth mashed potatoes, use a potato ricer instead of a masher.
Let the filling cool slightly before adding mashed potatoes to prevent sinking.
Add shredded cheddar on top before baking for a cheesy crust.
