Description

A show-stopping breakfast bake, this Overnight Crème Brulee French Toast layers soft brioche in a silky vanilla custard over rich caramel. Prepped the night before and baked until golden and bubbly, it’s everything you love about brunch in one decadent dish.

Ingredients

Brioche bread (thick-sliced, slightly stale works best)

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar (divided)

5 large eggs

1 1/2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp salt

Maple syrup, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the caramel base: Melt butter with 1/2 cup brown sugar in a saucepan until bubbly. Pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Layer the bread: Lay slices of brioche over the caramel base, covering the surface.
  3. Mix custard: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, milk, vanilla, salt, and remaining brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Soak bread: Pour custard over the bread, pressing gently to soak. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes until golden and set.
  6. Serve: Let rest 5 minutes, then serve warm with maple syrup.
