Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
12 ounces wide egg noodles
1 can (10.5 ounces) French onion soup
1 cup sour cream
4 ounces cream cheese
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 ½ cups crispy fried onions
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Cook the egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease.
3. Add French onion soup, sour cream, and cream cheese to the beef. Stir until cream cheese is melted and the mixture is well combined.
4. Gently fold in the cooked noodles until coated evenly in the sauce.
5. Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch casserole dish and spread evenly.
6. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
8. Sprinkle crispy fried onions over the top and return to the oven for 5 more minutes, until golden.
9. Let rest a few minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving to set the layers.
For added flavor, stir in sautéed mushrooms or green beans with the noodles.
Don’t add the crispy onions until the end of baking to keep them from burning.
