Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
0.25 teaspoon salt
0.75 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for batter)
0.5 cup whole milk
0.3 cup melted butter
0.75 cup brown sugar
0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for topping)
1.5 cups boiling water
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
3. Stir in milk and melted butter until the batter is smooth.
4. Evenly sprinkle brown sugar and 0.25 cup cocoa powder over the batter without stirring.
5. Gently pour boiling water over the top; do not mix.
6. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the top is set and slightly crisp.
7. Let cool for 5–10 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
Do not skip the boiling water step—it’s what creates the gooey chocolate sauce.
Let the cobbler rest after baking so the sauce thickens slightly.
Use high-quality cocoa powder for a deeper chocolate flavor.
