Description
This sugar cookie frosting is creamy, fluffy, and perfect for decorating your favorite holiday or everyday cookies. Made with butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and a splash of milk, it spreads beautifully and sets with a soft crust, making it ideal for stacking. Great for frosting cookies, cupcakes, and cakes alike!
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2–3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
1 pinch salt
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy and pale, about 2–3 minutes.
2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time, beating on low at first to avoid sugar clouds, then increase to medium-high until fully combined.
3. Add vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of milk or cream. Beat until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
4. If desired, mix in food coloring or flavor extracts until evenly distributed.
5. Use immediately to frost cookies. Let the frosted cookies sit at room temperature for 30–60 minutes to lightly crust, making them easier to stack.
Notes
Start with room temperature butter for a smoother blend and fewer lumps.
For piping, reduce the milk slightly to thicken the consistency.
Re-whip leftover frosting after refrigeration for best results.
