Description

This best and easy English Toffee recipe delivers rich, buttery crunch topped with smooth chocolate and toasted nuts. Perfect for holiday gifts, dessert trays, and candy cravings. A classic sweet treat with simple ingredients and big flavor.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped almonds or pecans

1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add sugar and salt. Stir constantly.

3. Cook until the mixture turns deep amber and reaches 300°F (hard crack stage), about 10–15 minutes.

4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract carefully.

5. Immediately pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.

6. Let sit for 2 minutes, then sprinkle chocolate chips over hot toffee.

7. Let chocolate sit for 1–2 minutes to melt, then spread evenly with a spatula.

8. Sprinkle chopped nuts and optional flaky salt over chocolate.

9. Let toffee cool completely at room temperature or chill to speed up.

10. Once firm, break into shards and store in an airtight container.

Notes

For best texture, use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to prevent hot spots.

Let chocolate melt on its own before spreading to avoid streaks.

Store in a cool, dry place to maintain crispness.
