Ingredients
All-purpose flour
Granulated sugar
Unsweetened cocoa powder
Baking powder
Baking soda
Salt
Buttermilk
Vegetable oil
Eggs
Vanilla extract
Hot water or coffee
Dark chocolate
Heavy cream
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8″ or 9″ cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
4. Add wet ingredients to the dry and mix until just combined.
5. Slowly stir in hot water or coffee. Batter will be thin.
6. Divide batter into pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
7. Heat cream until simmering and pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit, then stir into ganache.
8. Layer cake with ganache and frost top and sides.
Notes
For extra depth, use hot coffee instead of water.
Let ganache cool slightly for easier spreading.
Use room temperature eggs for better mixing.
