Ingredients
6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for apple mixture)
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss to coat evenly.
3. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
4. In another bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, oats, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
5. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or fork to blend until crumbly.
6. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple layer.
7. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender and bubbling.
8. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
For extra crunch, add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping mix.
If you want a richer flavor, swap half the apples with Honeycrisp or Fuji.
Reheat leftovers in the oven instead of the microwave to maintain a crisp topping.
