Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
½ cup heavy cream (optional)
3 cloves garlic, minced
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Pinch of ground nutmeg
8 ounces pasta (penne or rotini)
1 cup grilled chicken, sliced (optional)
Instructions
1. Bring a medium pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
3. Stir in flour and whisk constantly for 1 minute to form a roux.
4. Slowly add milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Let it simmer until thickened.
5. Add heavy cream if using. Stir in Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix until smooth.
6. Add cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. Simmer for 1-2 minutes.
7. Serve hot with grilled chicken if desired and garnish with more Parmesan.
