Description

These Delicious Apple & Cheese Danishes are flaky, buttery pastries filled with tender cinnamon apples and a smooth cream cheese center for the perfect sweet breakfast, brunch treat, or easy dessert. If you are looking for quick breakfast ideas, easy pastry recipes, cozy food ideas, or simple homemade baking that feels bakery-worthy, this easy recipe is a delicious choice.

Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

2 medium apples, peeled and diced

8 oz cream cheese, softened

3 tbsp granulated sugar

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp butter

1 tsp cornstarch

1 tbsp water

1 egg

1 tbsp milk

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp milk for glaze

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Add the diced apples, butter, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice to a skillet over medium heat. Cook until the apples are tender.

3. Stir together the cornstarch and water, then add it to the apples. Cook for 1 more minute until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from the heat and let it cool.

4. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese with the remaining 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon milk until smooth.

5. Roll out the puff pastry lightly and cut it into 4 equal squares. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Score a smaller border inside each square, being careful not to cut all the way through.

7. Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry, then top with the cooled apple filling.

8. Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry edges.

9. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

10. Cool slightly on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.

11. Whisk the powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon milk for the glaze and drizzle over the danishes before serving.

Notes

Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for the best texture.

Make sure the apple filling is fully cooled before adding it to the pastry.

For the flakiest result, chill the assembled danishes for 10 minutes before baking if your kitchen is warm.
