Description

This Delicious Char Siu Chicken is a quick dinner packed with sweet savory flavor, sticky glaze, and tender bites that make it one of the best easy recipe ideas for busy nights. Perfect for dinner ideas, food ideas, and simple homemade takeout, this chicken brings hoisin, soy, honey, garlic, and five spice together in a glossy dish that tastes bold, comforting, and incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs

1/3 cup hoisin sauce

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons brown sugar

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red food coloring, optional

1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish

2 tablespoons green onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, Chinese five spice, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and optional red food coloring.

2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and coat them well on all sides. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for deeper flavor.

3. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet or baking dish with parchment paper or foil.

4. Arrange the marinated chicken in a single layer on the prepared pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, turning once halfway through.

5. Brush the chicken with any remaining marinade during baking for extra color and flavor.

6. Broil for 2 to 4 minutes at the end until the edges look caramelized and slightly charred.

7. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, then slice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

Chicken thighs stay juicier than breasts and give the best texture for this recipe.

Do not walk away during broiling because the glaze can darken quickly.

Marinating overnight gives the deepest flavor and the most tender result.
