Description

Steak & Queso Rice is a bold, satisfying dish that layers tender, seared steak slices over fluffy rice and smothers everything in creamy queso. It’s a restaurant-quality meal made right in your kitchen, perfect for dinner nights that call for comfort and indulgence.

Ingredients

1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, flank, or skirt)

1 cup uncooked white rice (Jasmine or Basmati)

1 cup queso cheese sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 tbsp olive oil or butter

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

Optional: 1/4 cup crumbled queso fresco or cotija cheese

Instructions

  1. Prep the Steak: Pat steak dry. Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let rest at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Rice: Prepare according to package instructions. Fluff with fork and set aside.
  3. Sear the Steak: In a hot skillet with oil or butter, sear steak for 3–4 minutes per side. Rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  4. Make Queso (if homemade): Melt 1 tbsp butter in a saucepan. Stir in 1 tbsp flour, then slowly whisk in 1 cup milk. Add 1 cup shredded cheese and stir until smooth. Optional: mix in green chiles.
  5. Assemble: Plate rice, drizzle with queso, top with sliced steak. Garnish with cilantro and extra cheese if using.
